Governors' Home Page
The Governing Body of Elm School is a group of 17 individuals who
collectively have overall responsibility for running the school. They
represent different groups from within our community. The groups represented
are the Local Authority, the Church, Parents, and Staff from the school. The
Governors also have the power to co-opt 2 individuals as community governors. Each
governor has equal status.
The governors work predominantly
through 3 committees, the School Development Plan committee, the Curriculum
committee and the Resources committee which meet around 4 times each per
year. These committees report to the full governing body which meets twice
a term. As a group the governors have overall responsibility for all aspects of the
school, including appointments, all staff matters, the budget, taking an
overview of the curriculum and everything else related to the successful
education of our children. They are helped in this task by the professional
advice of the local authority, Mrs Jobson, who acts as Clerk to the
Governors, and the staff of the school. If you would like more information
about becoming a parent governor, please contact Mrs. Jobson or Mrs. McCallum.
ELECTION OF PARENT GOVERNORS
Six members of our Governing Body are parents of children at our school.
They are elected by parents and serve a four year term of office.
Notice of elections is given at the appropriate time and all parents
are invited to stand and take part in the election.
The governing body consists of people who contribute their time and
expertise on a voluntary basis. To enable potential new governors to
appreciate the level of commitment expected, the governing body has
listed below the generally expected minimum commitments.
Governors should within reason be prepared to:
- Attend each of the full governing body meetings.
- Read all documentation distributed prior to a meeting.
- Become a member and attend at least one committee.
- Attend one training session per year.
- Attend the new governor induction training within their first full year.
