Our topics this term have been ‘All About Me’ and ‘The Season of Autumn’. For the first four weeks of term, while the children were in school for half days, we talked about ourselves including homes, families and bodies. The children explored how faces have the same features however, we all look different. Using mirrors the children examined their faces closely before drawing, painting and crayoning pictures of themselves. They also used a paint program in ICT.

The children spent time exploring the school environment and our classroom, participating in many activities.

When the children started attending full time we explored Autumn and Harvest. We went on an Autumn walk around the school grounds to look at the trees, their colours, leaves, seeds, nuts and berries. We collected leaves, walnuts, acorns and conkers to use to make autumn collages and a class display.

Through our topic we have been covering all areas of the EYFS curriculum. for example we have been learning and singing Autumn rhymes and songs. We joined in with the harvest festival and linked this with RE and PSED. We have linked in our numeracy and literacy work, by counting and drawing Autumn objects.

For Creative Development, we have learnt songs and used musical instruments, made collages, leaf pictures, rubbings and printing. The children spend their time in class learning through planned independent choosing activities and adult-led group activities.

It has been a busy and exciting start to the year and we are delighted with and very proud of the children. They have been working hard and have settled very well into Elm School. We are looking forward to the rest of the year, sharing with you your child’s achievements.
